repiping

Planning to hire a plumber to repipe a 47 year old house. What would be the advantages of going with plastic piping instead of copper? Also I live in ca. with energy prices going up would it be wise to have them wrap all the pipes while they are repiping? Would it be use to have a pump on a timer put in so that the furthers bathroom would have hot water in the morning right away instead of running the water forever?
