It is an inexpensive, quick way to vent the fixtures. When everything is working correctly, there is little problem with them. It is when the sewer becomes partially plugged that they can cause drainage problems that you would not have with an open vent to the roof.
: I have just found out that my remodler that remodeled our bathroom and kitchen is using some sort of internal sewer vent that is piped up in the cabinets and/or vanity. Not that we are having problems or odors, but my understanding is that they should be plumbed out the roof. Can someone with some plumbing knowledge please shed some insight on this strange configuration ????
