Stop the cement backer right above the lip of the shower receptor. Don't put anything between the lip and the backs of the tiles (hopefully you are using tiles at least 4 in. square). Reasoning: Since the plastic receptor "moves," nothing you can put there is going to help. It's better to just let the tiles dangle. After you have grouted and everything has set up, use a thin bead of silicone around the bottom, between the tile and base.
Note: Mastic is not an approved adhesive over cement backer board. Use thin set mortar.
Make sure you install your plastic base perfectly level, or you will incur a leakage problem at the very front -- at the end of the curb (dam).
