: I pulled old wallpaper off of my bathroom wall and found the wall board to be moldy. In attempting to clean the mold off, the paper over the gypsum board tore in a couple of big areas.

: Can I do anything to be able to paint with out having to replace the wall bard?

: I was thinking about cleaning the areas up and skimcoating with joint compound.

I think you have the right idea. If the board is solidly attached, skim coating should work fine. Make sure you pull or clean the mildew off first. I like using a good laquer based wall primer if the wall has had troubles before. Something like Kilz, which will cover stains and crayon drawing.
