Cementing PVC

I am a photographer who purchased a darkroom sink made of PVC. I needed an additional sink so I decided to build one, using the existing sink as a model. The local PVC dealer suggested to use plumbers primer, and glue (the one that sets in 30 seconds)then silocone the whole thing. All was fine untill I poured some paint thinner down the drain. My already installed PVC sink fell apart- the thinner turned the silicone to putty. Any sugestions as to how to hold my sink together ?? > I thank you in advance > rw
