Mssr Jim: The use of plumbers putty was common practice long before the entrance of wax seals onto the plumbing scene. This type of seal in my opinion is far superior to the use of wax seals for toilet setting.

I recently had new floor tile installed in bathroom. When the guy replaced the toilet, he used some type of flange adapter to bring level up to new tile, but then used plumbers putty and formed a ring instead of a wax ring. He said a lot of plumber are doing this. It is working o.k. so far, but is this acceptable?
