: While at the home show this weekend, I saw a vendor that : was advertising tub and shower surrounds made from solid sheets : of cultured marble material. A standard surround would basically be 3 pieces of : the sheet stock butted at the corners and to the top of : the tub, then caulked at all the seams to make a leak
: I was wondering if there is a source for the material by : Thanks, Andy, the cultured marble I've dealt with is usually made up at the plant as the need arises. It's not something that is imported or produced on a gigantic scale. On another note, I'll bet you could install a good ceramic tub surround for less than the cost of the other stuff. Done right, ceramic tile over Hardi-backer, for example, will last much longer than cultured marble. It happens there are two very good DIY books out there on the subject, one by yours truly (Ceramic Tile Setting, McGraw-Hill) and the other by Michael Byrne (Setting Tile, Taunton Press). Either or both can be ordered from my site. Give it a try. Regards, John Bridge |
