Protecting Home from water damage during long absence in Winter Season

We currently own a single family home in Columbus,Ohio area. We are planning for extended vacations in Nov.-Dec., and will be out of the country for almost 2 months.

To make it sure that in our absence there is no water damage in our house, we are planning to shut off the water in our house at the basement. We do not know anything about plumbing. Is this is a good approach. Any disadvantages to this. We will set our heat to 65 degrees in our absence. Please let us know any web pointers which give useful information related to this area.

Thanks in advance for your replies.
