In response to Re: Galvanized Water Pipe Treatment
: Our apartment block was built 1940 and has galvanized water supply pipes. Whilst water pressure is excellent, rusty water appears on first turning on the faucet. As the building is solid brick with hidden piping, replacement will be costly. Is there a high possibility of failure (Leaking)? Is some sort of chemical corrosion treatment possible to arrest the problem at least as a short term solution?

Nothing to do but replace. The most common problem is electricial ground. Make sure that all ground rods are installed and that the grounding is only at the waterline entrance and not under sinks etc. Electrolysis is the biggest problem with any water system and will destroy piping. The chances for leaks are pretty good concering the age.
Sorry Joe
