You have to remove the cross bars at the bottom and use a fine hacksaw to cut two vertical sots about 1/4" apart through the vertical wall and then through the flange, without cutting into the bathtub. Use a small punch or chisel to remove the little piece you cut out. Then use the same punch or chisel on the flange to bend it inward. Do it on both sides of the cut, and the plug shoulc either pop out or unscrew. Unless a plumbing fixture resurfacer can repair the hole, your only sure recourse it to replace the tub. : Terry, : Do you have any suggestions on how to remove the drain from a 45 yr old cast iron bathtub ? it appears to be fused together with the lower piece.
