short vent pipe, small drainpipe

We live in a trailor. The washmachine and kitchen sink (double) are serviced by the same drain to the septic tank. The vent pipe is only about 4"-6" above the roof shingles, not 12" like you say it should be. Sometimes, seems like when we have had considerable amount of rain, the sink starts filling with soap suds when the washmachine empties, and there is a loud "gurlging." No serious backup mind you, but it sure sounds like it could happen any minute. The drain pipe to the septic tank is 2" Will extending the vent pipe solve the problem, or do I have to change the drain pipe to a bigger pipe? How large? Thanks, Ron
