|In response to Re: Upstairs tub is leaking through ceiling below|
: : The upstairs tub which has the one-piece fiberglass shower walls is leaking through the ceiling directly below it. There are no signs of water around the base of the tub and I cannot see any area around the inside of the tub where water may be leaking. It must be leaking from below. Can I fix this problem myself by cutting out the drywall in the ceiling below? Should I call a plumber? Can anyone help me? I would surely appreciate any advise. Thanks.
: I had the same problem. It turned out to be a bad gasket for the tub overflow (it happened only after a full tub, no problem during showers). We discovered this only after cutting through the ceiling below to investigate.
: Same problem here. My house is about 25-yrs old. When I cut thru the cieling I noticed rust stains on the back of the tub. Turns out the hole for the overflow was rusting. I could knock off pieces easily when I fliked it with my finger. I wound up tearing the walls apart and replacing the whole tub. It's a lot of hard work. If I had to do it all over I think I might pay someone to do it for me.
