Copper gas lines ? I hope you gas Lines are not copper but possibly your supply lines from the gas to the fixtures are. Either way take out all the copper in you gas system and replace it with aga approved gas flex supply lines and Steel pipe.
If you look at the 3/8" suply that came with your gas logs it's not copper. Copper reacts with the gas and causes flakes to gather in the pipe, just look at the old copper when you take it out.
By the way istalling new gas lines is a job for a licensed plumber, and needs to be permited /inspected.
