I am interested in finding out what you may have learnt. I am also faced with the same situation. I have these wall mounted lavs and would like to change the colors of the baths. In remodeling I would have to remove the toilets and am afraid to tackle the unknown. One dealer has gotten information from Eljers saying that I need a carrier but nothing more. I have heard that the carrier needs an "o"ring for the seal. What size it is and thickness is yet unknown. Let me know what you may have found out.
