leaking bath tub from show area

Help, I replaced the bath tube shoe gasket 2 times after replacing the whole unit itself(overflow pipesl with new shoe and gasket). I even put a think shoe gasket underneath and it still leaks, not bad but it leaks every time. On top in the bath tub I used plumbers putty before i started screwing in the drain piece, but it's not coming from there. I see the water straining from the rubber shoe gasket. Thanks for you help
