Getting rid of sewer smell

I live in a two story house. Occasionally our upstairs bathroom will have a sewer gas smell. No ryhme or reason to the timing, except it is usually present in the summer (I live in Kansas City). The house is relatively new - 7 years - and the vents are properly installed to code, terminating about 1 foot above the roofing. The only thing I have noticed is that two of the attic vents, also installed on the roof, are about 2 feet from the sewer vents. Could the smell be coming back into the house through the attic vents. Any thoughts or suggestions. Thank you.
