They do make a Japenses style soaking tub, I installed one for my mother 20 years ago, and I have recently seen them in catalogs. (which one?)
If you are planning on making a custom shower, tile may be a good way to go. If you have a way to get an entire enclosure in the room, (taking out a wall in some cases) you may be able to find one in acylic.
