: the gap between the trip lever assembly unit & the actuator is a little over 1/2 inch clearance - How do I lower the trip lever to 1/8 inch clearance ? thank you in advance for your reply!

Mart,
There should be a screw that you can loosen. The actuator will unthread to a higher position. Retighten screw.
