What to look for in a clamping drain - Weep Holes, Size, Material & cUPC Approvals

    Thanks for this thread, I'm the totally confused guy ;) and the photos of the two clamping drains above were my photos. John's been very helpful on the phone but welcome additional input to get to the bottom of this. especially recommendations of small clamping drains available in the US.

    It seems that it is pretty hard to do a clamping drain installation for a linear drain against a wall. ACO shows it as an option in their documentation for the quartz plus but not in the installation detail, those only show installations away from the wall.

    It seems that any clamping drain with a diameter of greater than 5.25 inches is problematic for a wall installation, as shown in the attached somewhat obsessive drawing.

    I talked with ACO on the phone and after some prompting they recommended cutting their clamping drain, as shown in these additional photos. Seems odd to me, as the clamping action on the wall side would be pretty compromised, especially when one considers the rim that runs around the clamping drains (hard to see what would happen to the weep holes in that setup, probably fine).

    What a shame. Over a hundred tile spacers gave up their intended purpose to try and keep my weep holes clear. RIP little guys.
