I see they have different control boxes for some pumps, the more expensive ones have 'run capacitors'.

What is a run capacitor?

When is it best to use one?

1HP and smaller submersible pumps do not need run capacitors. But a running capacitor makes it a little more efficient and will use slightly less energy.
