I just bought an 18 year old house with copper plumbing, and water service from a deep well. You have heard this many times...blue sinks. I need to do something before I end up with pinhole leaks, but trying to decide the best route to take. No leaks now, but I don't know about the past. I see no external sign of corrosion on exposed pipes, but I know that doesn't necessarily mean much. The water has a total hardness of 40ppm and pH ~6. Soft acidic water is a great copper solvent. Bad news for me. I haven't checked the conductivity of the water yet, doing that tonight. The pipe is well grounded and I detect no electrical current. I am testing and learning and seeking advice, so I dont want to say for sure what I will do, but I don't want to replace everything with pex (or anything else) unless and until I have to... $$$ and hassle. Would rather treat the water if that is best, but what is best for my situation, calcite, soda ash, other? Based upon this info, can anybody make suggestions? I dont have money to waste, so I want to make the best decision, like anyone else. I am knowledgeable about water chemistry so feel free to speak technically if need be. Thanks
