I am a new home owner with very little knowledge of wells and pumps. I have a submersable pump with an insualated pump house but I neglected to turn on the pipe heater wires (Extension cord trype things wrapped around the pipes, they are now on). Woke up this morning to no water after leaving the faucets dripping overnight. After using a hairdryer on thin pipe below the pressure switch i heard a click and the water began to flow inside. The water was not flowing evenly and was pulsating a bit but the pressure was good. I went out to the pump and the pressure switch was short cycling constantly. it was also leaking out of the pressure vavle when it was cycled on. About a few tablespoons per cycle would weep out. It cycles twice about every minute with the water in the house off. If anything is on in the house the switch continuously cycles on and off but water flows somewhat normally inside. The pressure valve leaks while it is short cycling. I repaced the pressure switch and the pressure valve but the issue is still there. I noticed the large blue pressure tank meter shows zero pressure. I also tested the fitting at the top of the tank and the pressure was neglidgable at best. It did hiss slightly. I am waiting on a plumber but they can not say when in the next two days they will be able to get here. I have a friend coming by leter to see if he can figure it out. Any ideas?
Should I keep the pump on or off? DSCN9953.jpgDSCN9954.jpgDSCN9956.jpgDSCN9957.jpgDSCN9958.jpg

Well it seems to have stopped short cycling. The water in the home is no longer pulsing and the pressure switch does not cycle even with the water running. I have no been able to get it to cycle at all but im not sure if it should. Plus I have to keep running in and out of the house to turn on/off the water so I could be missing it. Pressure inside is normal. Pressure still reads 0 on the tank. Perhaps something thawed? Im thinking I am going to still have the plumber come by to inspect my work and make sure everything is working normally. If I threw awat $40 on a pressure switch and valve that were not needed im not upset. Now I know how to do that :)

Do you think I am out of the woods?

Your gauge doesn't read 0, it reads about 140. They wrap all the way around like that when they freeze. Get another gauge so you can see what is really going on.

I will do that thank you sir. When I tried to take a reading from the top with my bicycle gauge its so low it barely moves the stick. There was a slight hiss of air though so its not dead but its very low. I just took another reading from the top valve and its at 45 Psi.

Make sure the pump shuts off. You need to add air to the tank first chance you get.

Yes sir it does. I wasn't able to see it happen so I manually moved the pressure switch. It engaged for about five seconds and shut off. I don't have a compressor but I have a plumber coming by tomorrow afternoon check everything out.
