The more I think about this the more I think why not do it my self and pocket the extra $$$ all I'm out is the WH cost for a year and a half then I start getting paid for the install and the gravy. I would only do this for people that I knew were good for the $$$, reg. customers. The others would still be cash.
Hmmmmmmm.

As a consumer, not a plumber, I like the idea. It is clear that in the long run it would be more money out of my pocket, but it would be worth it if the installation is good and they provide quick and quality service when something breaks. I also could afford a 75 gallon tank if I went this route.

My big concern is there is no easy way to gauge the quality of service until you are knee deep in it.

lease

You cannot lease a Cadillac for the same price as a Chevy, and you would not get a 75 gallon heater for the same price as a 30 gallon. In other words, if you can't afford a 75 now, you wouldn't be able to afford it then, either.

what ever works for you

all I know is it must work out ok for
some people. for example..

A little old lady will send 20 per month
to cullligan and has done it for 30 years....
for the very same 30 yr old water conditioner!!!!....
and she is satisfied with what she got for her money..

so you pay 21.99 per month for a 75 gallon power vent
instead of paying 1800 all at once......
and you get a lifetime warranty for service and labor...

if you feel happy and satisfied, then its all goood.

and the odds are that the 75gal power vent surrely WILL crash and
BURN in 6-12 years.....

Now the Culligan Fleck Water softener could literally
last a life time 25 years ...and they could replace it with
a USED rebuilt unit when it finally goes bad...

so whatever works .. different storkes for differnet folks.

75 gallon power vents

in this area , their are some plumbers that are chargeing
over 2200 for a 75 gal power vent...

I always hear about these "outrageous deals " some other
"flat rate plumbers" stuck their customers for
...usually weeks later,

and I could have sold them
the same thing for about 1500

Mark,

You made mention of " the paperwork" . WATCH OUT FOR
THAT !!

This " First Amer. Homeowner's insur..blah,blah" tried to get a "team" together in our area .Repair work . They dictate the cost, how fast you have to get there , etc. OMG the paperwork to change out a ballcock and flapper, then wait a month for payment . NO THANKS i said.

The lease idea does sound nice, especially for those who can't afford it now . If it works out please let us know. Good Luck !

no one here in my town is in the least interested in

leaseing a water heater......

and I have mentioned it to at least 100 people over

the past few montsh in sales pitches ,

So wherever it is big, it aint here.

it must be just regional thing.....

I dont know which way to loo at this. On the side of a man trying to run a shop and keep food on the table, I would run from this like crazy! From a consumer point of view, Ive plumbed and replaced since I was 14 years old, and I would pay $15-$20 a month to never have to worry about a water heater again! I waste a lot more than this on fast food and laundry expenses! In regards to the post about walking away from a vehicle deal because of a $20 fee, I recently did the same thing over a piece of equipment! My distributor told me that I had to have his company service this machine every 6 months to keep the warranty in force! Simple service procedure, but if I cant change the oil in a gearbox and grease a few joints myself then I will keep what I have. I would stand to lose more money with his downtime for service, and that does not even count what my customers have to go through when I would have to ask them to wait! Maybe Im just starting to get old and cranky!
