Tub Drain Not Watertight?

This is the drain in my tub:

The problem I am having is that it seems to not be water tight on one side, and it seems like water is probably getting in on the side of it.

This is what happens when I run the water:

As you can see a bit of water pools up in a small area on the side of the drain hole. It is usually gone within 10-20 seconds, and since it does not seem to be able to get up to go into the drain, my guess is it is just seeping down along side it.

How would I go about remedying this?

Just FYI, here is a shot from inside the closet next to the tub which shows what's going on underneath and behind the tub. I can't really get under there.

This is awkward, but...
