Hello,
I have a 40 gallon system 2000 storage tank that is approx. 20 yrs old. It works fine-no leaks. Should I replace it soon or wait for it to fail. About how much do they cost to replace?

Thanks,
Pete

How long an indirect water heater lasts is a function of your water quality and the volume of fresh water that moves through it in a year. Draining the sludge out of it every year or two is "worth it".

If it's not leaking and your hot water performance is adequate there's no compelling reason to replace it. Some indirect water heaters will outlast the boiler they're married to.
