I'm curious on how most do this. I am installing some new runs of copper tubing and insulating the hot. I have 2x4 trusses and the cold is sitting on the lowest horizontal 2x4 member of the truss (presently clamped to it every 10' or so). The hot runs above it and is going to have to be supported on the bottom of the tube; it can also sit against a vertical 2x4 in the truss as one is there. Should I just nail or screw in a section of 2x4 below it and let the insulated tube rest on it and then clamp in a few places? The trusses are spaced at 24" so I can support it every 4-6 ft no problem.

Hey, wait a minute.

This is awkward, but...
