My submersible sump pump is rated at 55 GPM at 10ft of head. The discharge pipe rises from the pit, to the basement ceiling and then across the basement to discharge on the other side of the house.

The entire run is piped with 1.5" Sch 40 PVC.

I've read that the max flow on a 1.5' PVC is 42 GPM.

Am I leaving 11 GPM behind because of this?

I'm considering replacing the horizontal run with 2" PVC. Alledgedly, the max flow in 2" PVC is 72 GPM.

And, with the rain and snow melt in CT, I know I need that additional 11 GPM!!!

Any thoughts? Does it make sense to replace the horizontal with 2" PVC?
