Stumped with an ECOWATER ERR3000R20.......

Well I cant figure out why my softner isnt giving us soft water.... It is an ERR3000R20 MADE BY ECOWATER. As well the only buttons that work on the keypad is the tank light. I took it apart, and found that one of the (i think it is) resisters on the circuit board was warm and around it was sorta discolored.... Any help anyone. Thank you in advance..
