Ok, so I'm back with yet another issue from Project Ulcer. . .

I tiled my bathroom vanity top and installed two travertine vessel sinks. These have been a problem in every way possible. The current problem is that the depth of the cutout for the drain on one of them is too deep.:mad::mad:
It's 2 1/2 inches. . .WTF?! What standard drain is supposed to fit that??

Here's one sink that should be ok. The depth is 2 inches.

Here's the bottom of that one. . .

But here's the other sink and the bottom of it. . ..2 1/2 inches deep :eek:

Even with the nut as low as it can go, any standard drain is not going to fit.

Any workarounds with this or am I stuck with trying to cut that bottom somehow?

I've been looking all over for something with longer threads with oil rubbed bronze.

I think this will work!

Features:
  • Internally threads into drain body
  • Extends drain shank threads 1-1/4" in length
  • Perfect for thick sinks - vessel and countertop, concrete, or custom installations
  • Works with offset and regular grid strainers
  • Remove tailpiece, add extension, re-install tailpiece into extension
  • Fits into most P.O. Plugs or Finger Touch drains with removable tailpieces
  • Chrome finish, but normally hidden by washers and mounting nut
PO Plug and Grid Drain Extension = $13.49

Or this. 108 bucks x 2 though....

C.O. Style Extra Long Shank Grid Strainer Drain NO Overflow Holes

Features:
  • Concave grid strainer allows for efficient draining
  • Durable 17 gauge thick brass construction
  • Extra long 3-1/2" threading for thick counters
  • Perfect for thin wall vessels and stainless steel sinks
  • Includes two rubber Mack washers and two lock nuts to ensure a secure fit
  • Use with sinks and vessels NOT containing an overflow hole
  • Fits 1-1/2" sink openings
  • 1-1/4" O.D. removable tailpiece
  • View drain dimensions
  • All exposed brass is fully plated and finished (including tailpiece)
  • View available finishes

I'm learning. . .

What do you recommend? On of the touch/pop up varieties?

Thanks for the replies and links. I'm still looking around. The sink is travertine so it's pretty soft...I just don't want to deal with the aggravation and mess if I don't have to...:)

I definitely don't feel like cutting that thing. I just have to find something I like. No a big fan of the pop ups, esthetically speaking.

This looks interesting, although not $145.50 a piece interesting. . .

Not sure how well this would work (and the thread length would be insufficient for my application anyway without buying extensions), but it certainly looks better to me.

Sits flush in the open position? Good luck trying to get that to drain in a vessel sink without an overflow. Hey. We tried to warn you at least.

Did you watch the video? The water draining "sensuously" didn't seem to be too robust to me.:eek:

I wasn't considering purchasing this. . .no warning needed! :):)

Their video was shot on the rectangular lav with the overflow. I would have liked to see video on the vessel too.

Here is one of my video's

I actually came across that video yesterday! Thanks. What drain did you use there, by the way?

I'm getting tired of looking. I wish Moen and Kohler made theirs with a longer thread length, although I can't quite tell how long the threads are on the Kohler (bad spec sheet). I prefer this look, though.

Same model here. That's exactly why I called them. . .twice. The first time they couldn't tell me. I called back and asked if they could have someone in the warehouse measure one. They did. They said the thread length was 3 1/4 inches. Then I see the first review at the top online. :) So, I think I should be good.
