I was browsing a Nibco video and found it interesting they recommended that ball valves should be closed when soldering.

Just curious for you pros or joes. Closed or not when soldering

I normally solder gate valves closed, and then open afterwards.
I've soldered ball valves both ways. That doesn't make me right though.

That was what I found interesting about Nibco's video. I was always under the impression, always solder open. Prevent heat build up, etc.
On gates, closed, so no solder on the seat, etc. In Nibco's video, it's the exact opposite of what I perceived was correct. Ball valves always closed and gate valves always open when soldering

I solder gate valve while open to prevent pressure buildup against the joint. Ball valve with the handle at a 45 so the water trapped inside the seals can boil out. Otherwise, I have seen it turn to steam and "blow" the seals out of the valve.
