Shower Faucet Install Question

Hello,

We recently had our shower faucet replaced. The escutcheon plate on the new faucet is smaller than the previous plate and thus does not cover the hole in the wall (picture attached). The plumber indicated that the gap can be sealed with grout/caulk.

Any thoughts on whether this is a proper install? Is it proper to seal the gap with group/caulk, per the plumber's suggestion?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Charles

Take your flanges to a plumbing supply store and get larger ones. The gaps are too large for grout or caulking.

Thanks all for your helpful comments. I have ordered the star trim plate per hj's above suggestion. Hope it will fit.
