Hi,

We are installing a Maax fiberglass two piece Neo Angle shower unit in our bathroom on the main level with basement underneath. All plumbing and the drain is readily accessible.

There are two types of shower drains that I am considering. Both are made by Sioux chief.

One is the traditional glue in style which uses a bead of Silicone under the flange and then a outer lock nut underneath and then the drain glues onto the 2" ABS vertical pipe.

The other drain is a "no-caulk" version that still uses the silicone under the flange and the outer lock nut underneath, but it has a rubber gasket inside the unit below the strainer that goes around the 2" ABS that is tightened from above, instead of gluing it to the ABS vertical pipe.

My thoughts on the "no-caulk" version would be that it would be easier to remove the drain and re-seal in case of a leak sometime down the road?

Does anyone have any experience with the "no-caulk" version? Or recommendations?

Thanks very much in advance.
