Let me start by saying how sorry I am about Terry's passing. Like many others, I come to this site when I run into a plumbing question that I am stuck on and only saw this sad news now. My condolences to Terry's loved ones.

The issue I have is with a sewer smell emanating from a utility tub into which I drain our washer. I lived here 25 years and the smell didn't start until a few years ago after (I think) we got a new washer. It is strongest with the first load of laundry after the washer has been sitting idle for a day. Most often I am not around when this happens. However, my wife had foot surgery recently and those tasks now fell more heavily on me over the past few weeks and it bothered me enough to take action. I looked at the p-trap and it was clean. I noticed the drain was going straight into the floor with no vent line connected. I installed an air admission valve, but that did not fix it. Anyone any ideas on what might be going on? I am attaching a couple picture of what is under the utility tub. BTW: I cannot recreate the issue by just dumping a bucket of water down the drain.

Many thanks in advance for any help or suggestions,

Werner

The AAV should have helped , the fact it did nothing means its gotta be draining slow septic or drain stoppage

You need to find out what is causing the smell exactly. A bright flashlight will show you the water line in the trap. You can watch whatever is happening, happen. But you need to find out what it is.
