Sealing Up Fixtures with *design flaws*

I'll have to grab some pics to properly explain, but for all you pro's or weekend warrior joes, have you guys ever ~pack~ a faucet fixture to mitigate possible water migration on a faucet , shower valve, etc.

Just got the shower/tub trim kit. Looking over it and there appears to be 2 weak areas where water could very will possibly migrate in and possibly cause damage in the long term. I just plan to measure and replace the stock factory O rings, with something that is a smigen fatter to ensure proper sealing against the mating surface.
