Hi, I'm Robert, I registered to clear up an issue I was hoping you guys can clear things up. I just had a water heater installed yesterday and I noticed the PVC pipes weren't glued together, they were simply connected. I brought this issue up with the installer and he tried lying to me telling me nobody glues the pieces together that they're simply connected. I called him out on it and he admits he didn't glue them cause if he had to work on it at a later time it'd be easier for him to take apart. I was very angry and shouted at him because my belief is that it's a safety issue? Am I correct that it's a safety issue? Thanks for reading.

Edit: It's a fan powered vent.

The PVC fittings should be primed and glued. Later, they can be cut out and be replaced, if needed.

How does he know he would get a call back if the thing fails later?

PVC pipe should not be connected to a water heater, so you definitely have some things to be concerned about.

The PVC manufacturers do not want it used for venting, but the heater manufacturers specify it. It "works" until the vent temperatures exceed the PVC pipes thermal rating.
