I'm getting rusty Hot Water coming from the Tub and Sink Faucets. It seems darker when first run, then lightens up. The Electric Water heater had been turned off last year and sat idle for 9 months. Could the electrodes or something else in the tank be the cause of the problem?

What is the age of the home?
Some homes in the 60's had copper pipe, and then installed the shutoffs with short galvanized nipples.
If your home has these, you can replace the shutoffs, and use brass nipples into the wall.

If your home is entirely galvanized, then you would need to repipe the home.

The home is 6 years old. Here in Fl. the piping is 95% plastic, that's why I suspect the water heater to be the source, especially since it had been turned off for 9 months due to renovation.
