( I know I should be calling the AHJ on this one, but conveniently, they're closed on Friday - my tax dollars at work  - hoping I can get a quicker answer here )

Currently designing my single-dwelling unit garage-based air-handler and takeoffs from it. Pretty typical setup: the air handler takeoffs penetrate the ceiling and then the supply trunks penetrate horizontally into the kitchen and living room, and also provides a supply/branch trunk to the upper-floor room over the garage (trying to upload a picture, but the site isn't letting me... )

Basic question: where are fire/smoke dampers required in a single-dwelling unit? Reading Chapter 6 of the mechanical code and Chapter 7 of the building code doesn't really make it clear what's needed (if anything) for a single dwelling unit

Unless your local or state coded has an amendment, you don't need them for a single family residence
