The faucet is close to the house which has vinyl siding and there is a decorative piece behind the faucet. There is only about 1 inch from the soldered joint on the faucet to the decorative vinyl piece. It is for a neighbor and I was afraid to do it since the vinyl could melt. Any solutions?

I thought of putting a wet rag and aluminum foil behind the faucet, but even with that I would nervous. If it were my house I would do it, but don't want the headache if the job is not a success.

Thank you

Tell them to call a plumber, who has insurance if he melts the vinyl. You might be able to apply enough heat to the valve itself to melt the solder joint after filling the void with a heat resistant material.

Most faucets in New York will be frostfree faucets.

If that is the case, you will have to go back about 6" to find the connection.
