That's what I'm up against. The pipe is mostly buried and I'm in the process of building a sub floor. I need a quick repair on this so I can finish the floor tomorrow. It's a horizontal pipe and the hole is in the top. It doesn't leak now, but if there is ever a backup it will surely leak. Any ideas?

If that hole is from corrosion...you'd do well to dig it out and replace as much as possible.
If it's from an impact, you could snap a small section out and replace it with a piece of 4" PVC and no hub clamps.

dig it out, cut out a 12-18" section, replace with ABS or PVC using fernco couplers. cut the cast with snap cutters or angle grinder.

Crap, Grumpy got there before me

hole

That looks like internal corrosion, and if so, 12" or 18" might not be enough pipe to remove before you find a good section. Use a snap cutter, because it will crush the pipe if it is weakened by corrosion.

It was probably hit by a digging tool (pick etc)...
Cut out a section as described above and replace with some plastic...
You can use the rubber ferncos as it is underground...

Well, only 1 rental company in town even has a chain snap cutter and they said it is out of commission indefinitely until they can repair it. I don't have a face shield, so I don't want to try using a grinder.

I will use a PC epoxy to patch the hole and then take Rugged's advice from another forum:

Author: Dunbar (KY)
Determine the size of piping, go and buy a rubber fernco of that same size.
Take a utility knife and cut a vertical cut in boot so that it will open up.
Then wrap around pipe, with the leak directly centered in the fernco.
Then slip bands back over their regular spots on each end of boot and tighten up.This will buy you a great deal of time on this matter.

Hey, wait a minute.
