I started bathroom remodel and found this. Looks like repair to broken pipe. Should I worry about this, or leave it alone? Have not had problems before the remodel so don't expect any, but better to address this now that sheetrock is off.

Are you sure it was a repair. Sort of looks to me like some "tar-like" substance was put on the pipes to protect them where they come through the concrete slab.
Is that stuff soft and sticky?

Substance is hard. Not sure it is a repair, but other pipes don't have it.

It looks like dried tar and nobody knows why it's there.

If you are worried, make an easy access to the drain when you drywall. Who knows, you may or may not need it later on.

Looks like someone smeared that stuff on to "fix" a leaking joint. It's hard to tell, are there connections where the tar is?

While doing some remodeling, I came across a joint someone had smeared with duct sealing mastic. It was on a horizontal section & showed no signs of leaking so I left it alone & have not had any issues.

Maybe someone drove a screw or nail into the pipe, and then coated the hole with whatever that stuff is. But if it's not leaking - probably best to leave it alone. Remember the old saying "Better is the enemy of good enough"
