Our 2-year old soft close lid has lost it's soft close ability and in searching this forum it seems as if all we can do is replace the lid. It seems 2 years is a short period of time for it to work. Or is that pretty normal? I've never removed the seat and just thought maybe removing/replacing might help. Thanks for any input.

PS. I have never regretted buying our 2 Toto toilets. We have the Ultramax ADA and would replace it with the same in a heartbeat. I mention this because I remember searching the forum for info and it was comments like this that helped me decide on Toto

I've had my soft close lid for 4 1/2 years and it still works fine. It doesn't see alot of action, however, so your problem may not be time related. If I had to guess I would estimate around 600 up & downs on mine so far.

4 1/2 years is about 1600 days, so 600 up/down cycles is about one every 2 to 3 days. Obviously you do not have someone in the house that demands that the seat be put down after every usage, otherwise you might have 8000 or more up/down cycles depending on the number of users.
