Doing my parents' water heater, gas is available. What is preferred these days that is available to a consumer? I know to avoid the big box stores, but don't want to break the bank.
Thanks,
Rob

Are either made in the USA?

I am currently looking at Rheem 42VR50-40F High Efficiency Natural Gas Water Heater, 50 Gallon, but reviews say Mexico.

The BW website talks about their factory, but does not specifcally state that ALL their products are made in the US. It may well be the case, and if so is the exception and you should definitely patronize that brand, and be prepared to pay for it. Welcome to the new world. And in general, most wholesalers will NOT sell it to you, only to your licensed contractor to install.

That will be the day. If you replace the anode rod, the heater may last 60 months, if you do NOT it may only last 5 years.
