I would like to put a water filter on my refrigerator water dispenser/icemaker. It would be installed in the basement. I live in Atlanta and use city water so a softener is not necessary. Purpose would be to improve taste and perhaps be more healthy.

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Thank you

What do you want to filter and how much of it is in the water?

To remove taste and odor, you use carbon.

BTW, unless you have less than 3-4 gpg of hardness in your water, you need a softener to protect the water heater and fixtures, and anything washed in hard water. The water company's web site's water quality report will tell you how hard your water is (use the max figure).
