Hi,
We lost all water last night. My boyfriend replaced the control box and the pressure switch. That didn't fix the problem. Our next suggestion was to remove the submersible pump. We took the well cap off and about 5 ft down is another metal plate/cap. How do we remove this cap? The wires run through it and we can not find any info online about removing it. Thanks in advance for any help/info.

You will probably be better off calling a local well service contractor. Going without water is no fun.

What you see down the hole may be a pitless adapter that allows the water to stay below the frost line. There are many types.

The stuff under the pitless can be very heavy. You could get injured or drop everything down the well.

Depending on how deep the well, and thus the weight to lift, check Youtube for videos. Start with this one...

Using 1" pipe the water will be 0.26-lbs per foot not including the weight of the pipe. With 1-1/4" it is 0.53-lbs-per foot, Our pump is down 365-feet so 190-lbs-water, plus 365-feet of pipe means that video would not apply for us. :)
