Plastic Nut Basin Wrench

I have plastic nuts that secure my kitchen faucet to the sink. I do not have a basin wrench and hand tightening only holds for so long. I see RIDGID makes a plastic nut basin wrench, obviously this would work perfect. My question is will a regular basin wrench work on these plastic nuts? I have never used one before and they seem really handy. Beats trying to use a cresent up in that tight of a space. If a normal basin wrench would work I would rather buy it than the one that is specific to the pastic nuts. Thanks in advance. The plastic nut wrench is below:

I agree with Jim. Just don't torque it too much or you'll split the nut.

Thanks guys, I did edit my post from before to include a pic of the wrench. I hate to buy such a specific tool when a multitasker will get the job done.

a cheaper way for you

Instead of buying that wrench to just take off

two difficult plastic nuts to change out your kitchen faucet.......


here is something I do all the time and it saves
me TONS of aggravation......

Plastic MELTS, and if you have an old long screwdriver or

old wood chisel you dont mind ruining, simply take your propane torch

and heat the tip end till its red hot...... then reach up to those plastic

nuts and simply melt through them on both sides and they should

fall away....


it works every time.....just dont brand yourself...

That is true Mikey, and it is only like $10 to boot. That is a sweet Idea Mark! I actually need to tighten down the existing nuts though. So I think I will buy both a regular basin wrench and this other one. Just in case

Actually, that is a very clever little chunk of knowledge. I hate those things and will definately be melting them off from now on.

I have one of those plastic nut removers and damn if I took it off the truck by accident.


A word of caution though; Delta and some other brands are making different plastic nuts to attach faucets that are not as wide and taller fins. That wrench doesn't grab those very well.

A bssin wrench only grabs one wing at a time so they will snap off. A piece of 1" copper tubing with four notches in it works just as good as the expensive wrench.
