Hi all,
I'm planning the plumbing for a remodel that includes a small addition (12x12). Addition houses powder room and laundry. The original house is solid brick construction, addition is wood frame.

I have a lot of questions but here's one I need to figure out soon:

My challenge is that we are some distance away from the main house stack and joist direction will make it tough to get over there. The other factor is that this space has a walk-able rooftop deck.

We obviously don't want a 6' tall pipe sticking up through the deck, and I don't think code allows the vent pipe to travel up the exterior wall and go into the attic and back out of the roof.

Any ideas on how to vent these fixtures? Is this a case where I might be approved to use an AAV (Studor vent)? Can all these fixtures be treated like a kitchen island with loop vents? Other options?

thanks!

You could put a vent up one of the new interior walls through the roof if you wanted. However it appears that Columbus will let you use AAVs: https://columbus.gov/uploadedfiles/Building_and_Zoning_Services/Document_Library/Reports/Construction_Industry_Communication_(CIC)/CIC36 AAV Installation Revised 10.27.10.pdf

Your existing vent would seem to meet the outside venting requirements.

Good find, thanks. So the next question would be where to place the AAV(s) and how many would be needed. It would be nice if I could place it in the wall between the powder room and closet, and create an access panel in the closet. Is that too far from the toilet? Will the washing machine need its own AAV?
