We have an old Payneheat Furnace that we took out that I was curious if someone could tell me how old it was or when it was manufactured?

Info on the plate: Input BTU 120,000
Output BTU 96,000
Series 2B
Model 120ZAU
Type of Gas Butane
Serial Number 2B9943
Payne Furnace Company

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Charley

Here is some Payne serial number info but your number does not seem to fit:

Here is the Payne Contact Us site:

Payne was founded in 1914 and in 1933 introduced the first forced-air, down-discharge furnace. In 1945 the company formed Affiliated Gas Equipment Inc. (AGE) with companies Day & Night and Bryant. Carrier bought AGE in 1955, and then made Payne the 'P' in the BDP Co. in 1974. Payne separated from BDP in 1996 to form Payne Heating & Cooling and is now owned by United Technologies Corporation, which acquired Carrier in 1979.

I'm a bit surprised to see BUTANE fuel specified! Was it really being run on butane, or was it converted to propane /natural-gas? At SD mid winter temperature extremes butane in an outdoor tank would have zero output pressure (it's liquid at temps just a hair below freezing.)
