I am trying to remove the shower drain From the shower floor but have no idea about how to go about it. Obviously I have already got the cover off but is there a tool that I insert into the four slots to get some torque on the drain itself ? It is a black ABS looking drain. I don't want to start cutting or prying until I have to. Any help out there ? If there is a specialty tool where do I find it? Thanks much folks.

If it is the drain I am familiar with, it is attached to the shower pan with a large nut from underneath the pan. To remove the drain body without cutting it, you must have access to the bottom of the pan.

The inner ring accessed from the top is what seals the drain pipe to the shower drain by compressing the rubber seal below the ring. removing it will not allow you to remove the drain body from the shower pan.

Thank you, I'll give it a shot as I do have access to the bottom where the drain comes through the floor. I'll let you know.
