This 1.5 cu ft softener and matching GAC filter have been great. However, a few days ago I ran out of soft water in the shower with 144gal out of 687gal capacity (180 gal reserve, 26K programmed capacity, 30grain hardness, salted 8lb/ft). I confirmed hardness breakthrough same as the inlet water using Hach 5B.
I had been letting the salt run out so I could do my annual salt barrel cleanout. But there was still undissolved salt when this happened, so not a case of running out. And the usual small amount of non-salt scum. I could tell just by looking the amount of water going in and out of the salt tank was less than the 4gal it should have been.
So today I cleaned out the salt tank, removed the brine draw button (read it was "123" and "4.0" I think ) and blew it out with compressed air. I did not look clogged. I then poured 2gal of water and 1/4cup of bleach in to the tank and regenerated. No water was drawn from the salt tank. Then I disconnected the brine draw tube from the overflow/air-check valve combination in the tank. There was good suction at the tube, and water flowed out at a reasonable rate during brine fill.
So I believe I have either a bad air check valve or overflow valve. Can anybody identify the unit I have below? It is hard to see in the photos, but the overflow float hangs on a plastic dowel to set the level. The air check is a white 4" high cylinder with slots cut in the side.
Should I get another one of these air/overflow valves? Seems like 2.5 years is not that great. Is a better quality model available?
