Going from a double sink to a single and need to reconfigure a few things. I need to reach the trap. The drain will be a couple inches to the left of where the trap entrance is in these photos. Should I just drop a 90 out of the drain and run the pipe the dishwasher drain is connected to horizontally and then drop another 90 from that into the trap (after rotating it to fit)?

The pipe from the wall stays horizontal with some grade, 2%.
You can 45 over to the sink drain and pick it up with a p-trap. A 90 would be my last choice.
If you have a disposer, keep in mind that how you spin (turn it) it in relationship to the drain makes a difference.

45 from the wall pipe to the trap and then tailpipe with dishwasher drain straight out of sink drain into the trap?

Do NOT put the dishwasher connection "horizontal", since that would connect it after the trap. It goes between the sink and the trap. Use a 45 or some other fitting, to angle to drain to the new trap location.

No, you just need a captive nut tailpiece that connects directly to the strainer.

That might work, but if I'm still stuck for room do I get the other strainer? I have a similar piece, but I think it's an extension rather than a direct connect.

You won't be. Just cut the bottom off to fit your trap. You would NOT have a direct connection, because few places even know about them so you have to do some hunting or go on the Internet.

I'm not sure that's going to do it. The drain opening for the dishwasher would need to be significantly higher on the pipe for it to work. Here is a picture with the existing parts I have. The problem is the dishwasher inlet hits the trap and I can't get it any higher. Pic for reference.

They make baskets that are shorter. The threads on your basket are very long.

Or use the one that hj mentioned. They have these in any hardware store.
This has a flange at the top that fits right to the basket you have now.

You're almost there! :)
